Abstract

Introduction: Heart failure as a chronic disease is a growing problem in communities. Socioeconomic status and illness related worries are two important factors in the self-care of patients. So the aim of this study is to determine the correlation between socioeconomic status and self-care in patients with heart failure: The role of illness related worries mediator.Methods: This descriptive - correlational study is conducted on heart failure patients in Tabriz, Iran in 2016.149 patients are selected through convince sampling method. For data collection, a demographic information questionnaire, “European Heart Failure Self-Care Behavior Scale”, “Illness-Related Worries Questionnaire (IRWQ) ”, and “Kuppuswamy’s socio-economic status scale” are used. The validity and reliability are measured in previous study. Data is analyzed by SPSS 21and Sobel test.Results: There is a significant correlation between socioeconomic status and self-care (r=-0.729, p<0.01).Illness related worries in the relationship between socioeconomic status and self-care were mediated through Soubel's test (Sobel test=-4.89, p<0.01).Discussion: Illness related worries is as a mediator and also a bridge between socioeconomic status and self-care. It is suggested that nurses, health psychologists and doctors consider these variables in primary priorities of self-care education.
