Abstract

The aim of present study was to investigate the predictive role of cognitive style dimensions included NEED FOR COGNITION, NEED FOR STRUCTURE& NEED FOR DECISIVENESS in determining ACTIVELY OPEN-MINDED THINKING as metacognitive disposition index.223 Shiraz University students participated in this study. The scales of NEED FOR COGNITION (Cacippo et, al., 1996), NEED FOR STRUCTURE & NEED FOR DECISIVENESS (Thompson et, al., 1992) and ACTIVELY OPEN-MINDED THINKING (Stanovich and west, 2007) were administered. Factor analysis and Cronbach alpha reported acceptable validity and reliability of the scales. Regression analysis results showed positive role of NEED FOR COGNITION and negative role of NEED FOR STRUCTURE in predicting open-minded thinking. NEED FOR DECISIVENESS did not predict ACTIVELY OPEN-MINDED THINKING.
