Abstract

Today, geo-tourism has turned out to be a new approach for elucidating geology and identifying natural wealth of any region, which develops tourism in addition to playing scientific and educational roles. UNESCO has carried out international programs titled GEO PARK. GEO PARK, protected UNESCO, is a region with recognized boundaries and identified areas in order to make economic developments in the future. According to UNESCO, such regions must have various interesting geological phenomena (in different size not considering scale) with a combination of scientific characteristics, rareness, showing the history of the region's geology, demonstrating events that not only have geological value, but are also precious in terms of archeology, ecology and history. Among all the regions, Qumtapeh micro desert due to location in Azerbijan area has unique attractions in the country and Middle Eastern regions. Also having welfare facilities and easy transportation, QUM TAPEH micro desert has an excellent condition to be introduced as a national GEO PARK. In this article attempt has been made to investigate the potentials of this region to be known as a GEO PARK, in addition to identifying its sedimentology, geo-morphological shapes and geological structure through a geo-touristy approach.
