Abstract

Introduction: MELATONIN is synthesized in the pineal gland as well as in several peripheral tissues. The MELATONIN signal is translated through activation of two G –protein coupled receptors, MT1 and MT2, and involves in several actions like regulation of circadian rhythms and sleep promotion. MELATONIN is also suggested to play a role in treatment of different disorders especially neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson's disease and Huntington’s disease through its anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects.Conclusion: The aim of the present review is to discuss the effect of MELATONIN in the above mentioned neurological disorders.
