Abstract

The main purpose of this paper is to examine the functions of financial markets in mobilizing savings for economic development and outline the policy implications for expansion of financial market in Iran. Therefore, at first, functions of financial market, especially mobilizing savings and allocation of resoures are discussed and through an endogenous model, it is shown that how these functions by two channels (rate of capital accumulation and technolical innovation) affect thd long run economic growth. The trend of investment and saving in Iran indicates that rate of capital formation in Iran lower than the most LDCs. The main suggestion advocates enncouragement of privates sector participation in financial market by creating security in investment and regulation of the capital market in Iran.
