Abstract

Song is the passionate and plain voice of the ordinary and the anonymous, the initial oozing of a national and primitive soul. Wedding songs or the VASSONAKs are a folklore type in which women play a major role and their art is received by the audience (the bride and the groom). This, in itself, reveals the importance of women’s cultural and artistic role in preparing their children to enter marriage.The writer has tried to investigate factors such as RELIGION, climate, geographical and local situations and feminine concerns in the formation of VASSONAKs.The author has also tried to make the VASSONAKs of Bandar Lengeh known to audience through meticulous analysis.VASSONAKs entail beat and happiness but they include mother’s aspirations for their children after marriage as well. We can trace religious beliefs, spiritual values, the Hindu CULTURE and the climate in the songs. VASSONAKs have been in circulation chest to chest since long ago up until now.
