Abstract

Any country's geopolitical characteristics are among the efficient variables that form their defense strategy and policy. In other words, strategy is greatly influenced by geopolitical limitations and capabilities. The effect of geopolitics on adopting suitable and effective strategies have always been a case with which scholars in strategic studies have been mentally preoccupied, something that has doubled during the recent years. The Caspian region is one that has an important status in IRI's defense strategy, and has managed to attract many attentions due to its geopolitical and geostrategic advantages. It follows that efficient and suitable defense policies and strategies can be configured in this region by having knowledge of the Caspian region via geopolitical analysis. The present research aims to study and explain the geopolitical status of the Caspian Sea in I. R. I defense strategy. This research is applied in terms of objective, and has been conducted with analytical-descriptive method. Also, the required data and information have been gathered with library (books, publications and internet) and questionnaire method. The findings of the research showed that the Caspian Sea plays an efficient and important role in consolidating national power and promoting IRI's defense strategy due to having unique characteristics in political, economic, communication, military, cultural, geostrategic, environmental, and law dimensions.
