Abstract

IMAM 'ALI's fighting with 'AMR B. 'ABDEWAD at' Ahzab was considered as an important point in this decisive battle and one of the reasons for polytheists' defeat. Paying attention to this event, scholars narrated it in different religious approach. In this inquiry, having analyzed the Shi'ite and Sunni sources and then compared traditional-historical documents with the sources, we reached to the conclusion that the approach of Sunni and Shi'ite scholars presenting the main image of the event and its features is different. The Shi' ite scholars narrated this event in detail. Among Sunnis discussed in this article, however, Waqedi narrated the most but Tabari and Ibn Athir the least details of the event otherwise. Some Sunnis also narrated nothing and others denied it. Therefore, there are totally four viewpoints among Sunnis concerning this historical significant event including: recording the event in detail, recording it in brief, not recording it and denying it.
