Abstract

In his works, Jalaladdin RUMI has talked a lot about being silent. The frequency of mention and his pen name ‘silent’ made the author to carry out this study to discuss RUMI’s silence and its justification. To this end, the author first lists mystical and educational views and their differences on silence. Next, referring to the six parts of MATHNAWI, he cites 15 reasons for RUMI's silence and its place, along with examples.The reasons for being silent could be, CONCEALMENT OF SECRETS, presence of strangers, inability to perceive, attentiveness, outward silence, attraction of compassion, just to name a few.
