Abstract

Our study shows that whereabouts of surgical operation on COMBATANTs wounded in the field can have important effect on the future complications and mortality rate. From 1440 LAPARATOMY performed on 1176 COMBATANTs, 415 (28.82%), 713 (49.51%) and 173 (12.01 %) operations were performed in the FIELD HOSPITALs (FLH), war zone cities hospitals (SLH) and big cities hospitals (TLH) respectively. From these operation, 70 (39.11%), 64 (35.75%) and 9 (5.03%) patients developed complications in FLH, SLH and TLH respectively. The ratio of patients to developing complication were 16.8%, 8.98% and 5.20% for FLH, SLH and TLH respectively, which shows that number of complications in the FLH were double that of SLH. It should be noted that in most cases, patients who were operated in TLH, were those complicated from previous LAPARATOMY in FLH or SLH. Statistical results show that mortality, due to developing complications in the FLH and SLH, were 2.6% and 0.98% respectively. It should be emphasized that patients operated in the FLH, though being operated in a short time after becoming wounded, developed more complications due to more severe injuries, lower health condition, special circumstances governing the FLH, limitations of resources, man power, and etc. Therefore, special attention must be paid to improve the effectiveness of field conditions.
