Abstract

In this paper, Farsi ALLOPHONE system is analyzed according to the theory of ARTICULATORY PHONOLOGY. To this end , ARTICULATORY GESTUREs"are defined as minimal units of analysis. Since ARTICULATORY GESTUREs are intrinsically temporal constriction patterns of vocaltrat, their spatio temporal combinations organize phonemes and ALLOPHONEs. 64 Farsi words were selected to study consonants "of cc context. Author uttered the word while wearing artificial palate using ELECTROPALATOGRAPH. The acoustic signal and tongue dynamic frames were recorded. Finally, Farsi gesture OVERLAP.rules were determined..
