Abstract

Low back pain is one of the major leading cause of referring patients to the physician, and is about 30% of patients who refer to a General practitioner. A group of patients with lumber disk that did not respond to medical therapy, have been operated on.Failure of medical therapy and positive neurological findings were the main leading factors for choosing the patient for the surgery. Our propose in this study is to find a correlation between surgical out come and clinical, radiological and operative findings.We retrospectively have done analysis on medical records of 101 patients with LUMBAR DISK who have been admitted in Dr Shariati Hospital from March 1991 up to the end of February 1992.There have been 56 male with the manage of 37.53±1.3 and 45 female with the mean age 44.2±1.2 and 40.43 for both groups.Low back pain (100%) and ridiculer one (90%) were the main chief complains of the patients and the most common positive findings were motor weakness (82.4%) , positive SLR (72.3%) and loss of reflex (43.6%).The most common degenerative disk was in L4-L5 level and mylography has been compatible with positive clinical and operative findings in (72.3%).The surgical results have been satisfactory in 80% of the patients and all of them coud return to their daily activity.
