Abstract

Background: The role of socioeconomic factors on CHILD HEALTH is estimated more than 50% and the impact of parents’ socioeconomic status on CHILD HEALTH is very important thus, in this paper, the effects of parent's socioeconomic status on CHILD HEALTH were analyzed in Tehran. Methods: The statistical population consists of 85184 member of the children younger than 1 year old of Tehran in 2014. The sample size was determined by Cochran formula and selected 400 records through random method from 10 health centers of Tehran. Data were gathered from health care records (HCRs) by questionnaire. Models were estimated by Probit, Probit with endogenous variable and Ordered Probit in STATA software. Results: The result shown that increasing father's and mother's EDUCATION increases the probability of children’s health by 2.6 and 3.5 percent respectively. Mothers' EMPLOYMENT decreases the CHILD HEALTH status as 6.7 percent and possibility of twin children's health was 8.97 percent less than other children. Also results for underweight children shown that increasing father's and mother's EDUCATION decreases the possibility of children’s underweight by 0.9 and 1.5 per-cent respectively and mothers' EMPLOYMENT increases the possibility of children’s underweight by 4 percent. Conclusion: Mothers' EMPLOYMENT has a negative effect on children's health; i.e. mothers' EMPLOYMENT increases the possibility of underweight due to children's malnutrition. Also, father's and mother’s EDUCATION have positive effect and family size and being twin have negative effect on children's health.
