Abstract

This descriptive study was conducted in winter 1997. All registered nurses (40) and 62 patients from surgical wards of Uromieh university of Medical Sciences Hospitals were hosen by random sample method.Two separate Likert - type questionnaire designed to measure the VIEW POINTs of subjects. The intensity of each item was measured by scale with response choices ranging from most important to the Least one. Higher score indicated most important barriers. Patients were asked to indicated their VIEW POINTs by structured interviews.For achieving the goal of the study descriptive and inferential statistics were used. Based on the results, the most common important barriers in nurses VIEW POINTs were; limitation of analgestic drugs (X=4.02), unprored scale for determining pain intensity (X=3.87) in use of narcotic drugs (X=3.77). From patient's VIEW POINT, the most important barriers were lack as many for buying drugs (x=3.74), and less attention of physician to patients pain (X=3.14).Regarding the main goal of the research, the results showed, that the most important barriers from both subjects VIEW POINTs were similar previous studies (financial and management barriers).
