Abstract

Introduction: Changes in lifestyle and dietary habits of people with increased use of unhealthy foods and reduction of physical activity has resulted in a high prevalence of overweightness and OBESITY in WOMEN. This study aimed to determine the dietary behavior status and its predictors based on the Pender`s HEALTH PROMOTION model constructs among overweight WOMEN.Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was carried out on 484 WOMEN with a body mass index greater than 25, who were selected through convenience sampling. The study population included all WOMEN with high weight, referred to the Fatemieh hospital clinics of Hamedan, during year 2014. Data were collected using questionnaires, Pender’s model constructs and dietary behavior. Statistical analysis of the data was performed by the SPSS (version 16) software and statistical tests were correlation and regression analysis. Results: The average age of the overweight WOMEN was 38.29±9.01 years and mean Body Mass Index (BMI) was 29.2±2.28 (kg/m2). In this study, mean dietary behavior in WOMEN was undesirable (38.7±12.05). Results of regression analysis showed that the 82% of the variability in dietary behavior of the overweight WOMEN was predicted by the following structures: perceived benefits, perceived barriers, negative feelings associated with behavior, self-efficacy and commitment to a plan of action (R2=0.82, F=12.75, P<0.001).Conclusions: The FEEDING BEHAVIOR of WOMEN was unacceptable. According to the important role of WOMEN in maintaining the health of other family members, they need to raise their awareness of nutritional behaviors and reduce undesirable behaviors. Therefore, based on the results of this study it is recommended to plan FEEDING BEHAVIOR intervention strategies for WOMEN, which should emphasize to increase self-efficacy, positive feelings associated with behavior and commitment to a plan of action and reduce perceived barriers.
