Abstract

Background and Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare FAMILY RESILIENCE (family communication and problem solving, utilizing social and economic resources, maintaining a positive outlook, family connectedness, family spirituality, ability to make meaning of adversity) and EMOTIONAL MATURITY between dependent and non-dependent men.Method: This is a casual-comparative research. Convenience sampling was used to recruit120 participants, who were clients of addiction treatment of Fuman–Iran in 2014. A corresponding number of non-dependent participants were also recruited the same way. The research instruments were FAMILY RESILIENCE and EMOTIONAL MATURITY scales. Multivariate Analysis of variance (MANCOVA) was used to analyze the data. Results: The results showed that dependent people scored lower in all subscales of FAMILY RESILIENCE, namely, family communication and problem solving, utilizing social and economic resources, maintaining a positive outlook, family connectedness, family spirituality, ability to make meaning of adversity than non-dependent people (p>0.001).They also scored lower in EMOTIONAL MATURITY scale than non-dependent people. Conclusion: The results of current research imply that people with low FAMILY RESILIENCE and EMOTIONAL MATURITY are more likely to become dependent on drugs.
