Abstract

According to the traditions by Imams, the Prophet’s will is one way to prove the Imamate. And this will, in the Shi’ite sources, points to twelve people the first of whom is Imam Ali (PBUH) and the last one is Imam Mahdi (PBUH). Also, the will used in proving the Imamate is of two kinds of written and clear each of which has some features. In this article, we discuss the written will and analyze its features in Shia hadith sources. Finally, the result is that during the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s life time, God has sent down a written letter with twelve Seals to him by Gabriel and stated the name of the twelve Imams and their life guidelines. By proving this, anyone who claims to be an Imam, while his name is not mentioned in the will, is surely a liar. The need to review the hadith sources and the abuse of the meaning of the written will by the false claimants and the how of taking advantage of this standard is the other motivating reason to write this paper and the used method in this article is descriptive-analytic.
