Abstract

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in the modern world and has been labeled a debilitating disease. This study aimed to determine the effect of SELF-CARE education on self-efficacy in patients with COPD.Methods: In This quasi-experimental study, 60 patients with COPD were selected by convenience sampling referred HemadanShahidBehsti and Beast centers and randomly divided into experimental and control groups. At first, demographic information and COPD self-efficacy scale questionnaire were completed by experimental and control groups. Then intervention group was trained face to face in 3 sessions (about 45 minutes in each session) with 3 days intervals. Immediately and 1 month after ending the intervention, related information was collected again. Data were analyzed by SPSS/20 software.Result: In test group in comparison among before, immediatelyafter and after one month of intervention there was significant difference in increasing score of self-efficacy and all dimensions (P<0.0001). But this difference was not significant in evidence group (P>0.05) and both groups, before and Immediately intervention no significant difference in self-efficacy (P>0.05). after one month of intervention between two groups, was seen significant difference in mean score of selfefficacy (P<0.05).Conclusion: SELF-CARE education as an effective method on self-efficacy of patients with COPD, this low-cost and effective method are recommended for these patients to increase their self-efficacy and consequently improve their health status.
