Title

Review of Key Indicators of the "Green Hospital" in a Selected Military Hospital

Pages

  401-409

Abstract

Background and Aim: In recent years, the construction industry, and in particular the hospital, affected by sustainable development, created concepts such as "sustainable building" and "Green Hospitals". Various methods have been developed with the development and implementation of Green Hospitals. The point of sharing all of these three methods was the use of optimum Water, Energy and waste production. This study was conducted to study the status of these areas. Methods: This retrospective study was a descriptive cross-sectional study. The research population consisted of one selected military Hospital in Tehran. The 3-year (2014-2016) preliminary data was collected on costs and Energy costs, Water and waste generation in 2017 and analyzed by Excel software. Results: On average, the hospital consumes 80. 79 kilowatts of electricity and 12. 12 cubic meters of gas, respectively, at 25861 Rials and 10808 Rials, respectively. These figures to Water consumption are 1124 liters at a cost of 16, 993 Rials per day bed. Waste production also averaged an average of 3. 67 kg per day bed, 42% of which was made up of infectious waste. Conclusion: The results showed that utilization of Water and electricity was 2. 20 and 10. 1 times higher than existing standards. The total amount of waste produced on average was 2. 5 to 3. 7 times, and infectious waste was 27 percent higher than global standards. Hospitals are recommended adopting environmental protection strategies, training courses, waste management and allocate necessary funding. In the large dimension, the binding nature of these measures and the development of indigenous indicators will be a useful strategy. The lack of mandatory standards for measuring and reducing indicators is a national challenge, and it is recommended that the hospital reduces the number of statistics
