Abstract

In Iran, labour market faces with various difficulties including underutilisation of whole human force as well as low work consciousness. Study of the increase of population of Iran during 1976-1996 indicates that there is a significant gap between supply and demand of labour such that without creating new employment opportunities the country will confront with a serious problems and difficulties. The objective of this paper is to study the characteristics of labour market during 1976-1996. From objective viewpoint, the research is an applied reserch, and from data collection viewpoint it is a descriptive research. The results show that during 1976-1996 as a consequence of huge population increase, decrease of per capita GDP as well as labour productivity, the structure of labour force changed remarkably in favour of services sector against commodity producing sectors. Also, data indicates that ages between 15-24 constitute almost half of unemployed population. Meanwhile the outcome of research states that finding solution for unemployment problem depends on explaining the economic system of Iran based upon value-added and forbidding rent profiteering ways.
