Abstract

One of the important issues in regional economics is the distribution of resources and facilities of the country in the spatial and geographic dimensions in order to achieve regional balances. One of the indicators of imbalance among regions is the inequality in per capita incomes. In this regard, identification of factors affecting INCOME INEQUALITY among regions will play an important role in policy making for regional equilibrium. The purpose of this study is to identify the causes of inequality in per capita incomes among the provinces of Iran during the period of 2000-2014. To achieve the research goal, the role of various economic factors in increasing INCOME INEQUALITY among the provinces was examined using a fixed-effects panel regression model. The results show that the comparative advantage indexes in exports of industrial goods, the coefficient of variation of the government spending in the provinces, the concentration ratio of industrial activities, the difference in HUMAN CAPITAL and comparative advantage in the hotel industryhave positive impact on INCOME INEQUALITY of provinces.
