Abstract

High school students play an important role in preserving and spreading the culture of every society. Therefore, achieving their level of awareness and adherence to this category of necessities is essential. In this applied research, a descriptive and survey method using questionnaire and library studies has been attempted to measure the awareness and adherence of Yazd high school students to popular culture. Popular culture has both material and oral components. The results of this study showed that in both physical and verbal dimensions the level of knowledge of boys was higher than those of girls, and the level of knowledge of boys and girls in oral and spiritual components was higher than material components. In general, the level of awareness of popular culture is at a good level. Adherence to the components of popular culture among male students is acceptable and female students generally lower than acceptable. Also, the level of adherence to popular culture is generally lower than acceptable. High school students gain more information about popular culture through family and acquaintances. Gender also influences the use of popular culture in life.
