Abstract

One of structures ofQuran inexplaining its teachings is narration. Quran has abundantly taken advantage ofstory forteaching the inherent rules of universe to man, warning and annunciating him, and also informing him of the story of the predecessors and prophets. One of these Quranic narratives, is the storyof Mary thathas been highly considered due to its inclusion of various upsand downs and extraordinary adventures such as a childbirth without a father and his speech in cradle. Many scientific attempts have been devoted to description, commentary andanalysisof this story andother Quranic narratives, and many researchers have scrutinized various aspectsofthese stories by different literary, semantic, historical and linguistic approaches. One of the emerging approaches inthe studyof Quranic stories is“ Narratology” and its distinguishing aspect from other approaches is that it studies the structure of astory and provides the possibility of methodological extraction of implicit meanings in it consideringthe various aspectsof astory suchas narrator, characters, point of view, plot, etc. The present article, while reporting the narration of Quran from the story of Mary, attempts to study thenarrative components in this story. This study indicates that despite thedifferences between Quranic stories andhuman stories in various aspects, the story of holy Mary has a plot similar to that of human stories and its structural pattern, with a slight difference, is applicable to that of common stories. Reviewof elements such as narrator, characters, and point of view in this story by the use of narrative approach brings aboutnew achievements to understand this story
