Emotional Balance and Communication Patterns in Family: Comparative study of Families with and without Disabled Children

Abstract

 Background and aim: Families with Disabled Children experience social isolation and mental health problems in fullest And are vulnerable to social-behavioral and emotional problems. Accordingly The purpose of this study is the comparison of Emotional Balance and Communication Patterns in Families with Disabled Children and Families with Normal Children. Method: this Is a causal-comparative study. Population of the study Included all families with physical – Motore disabled children and Families with Normal Children in 2016 in tehran. By Purposeful sampling method 150 families (75 families with physical – Motore disabled children and 75 families whit normal children) were selected as sample. Results: The results of multivariate analysis of variance to compare Emotional Balance and Communication Patterns in Families with Disabled Children and Families with Normal Children showed that families with disabilities children have lower Emotional Balance compared with Families with Normal Children. Families with Disabled Children reported Lower scores in mutual constructive communication compared with Families with Normal Children, In contrast, in Communication Patterns of mutual avoidance and demand /retiring reported more scores in compared with Families with Normal Children(P<0/05) Conclusion: According to the results, it can be said that Families with Disabled Children in compared with Families with Normal Children have lower Emotional Balance and they use more Communication Patterns of mutual avoidance and demand /retiring in their relationships.
