Abstract

Background: Previously infectious disorders were known as the most important health RISK FACTORS, but recently the pattern of health has been changed and major non communicable disorders are known as the most prevalent factors. Among those, cardiovascular disorders are considered of the most prevalent ones. Prevention is considered as the most important route to control these disorders, thus knowing the major RISK FACTORS are so important. This study was conducted to evaluate new and conventional RISK FACTORS of acute MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION as part of "Inter-heart" international project in Iran. Materials and Methods: In this case-control study, 242 cases and 227 controls were selected, using simple non-random sampling. They were matched according to sex and age. Information included nutritional, cigarette smoking, physical activity related, stress related, sleep related and drug and hormonal related data was obtained. using special previously administered check lists. Results: Mean age of the study population was 54.8±11.9 years, which did not show any significant difference between cases and controls. There were no significant difference between frequency of different sex groups between cases and controls. Cigarette smoking between cases was significantly higher than those of controls (p<0.05). Nutritional lifestyle was significantly different between cases and controls. The demographics variables, physical activity, status of stress and drug consumption were different between two groups. Conclusion: Considering the information of this study and comparing with other studies it seems that, the most important RISK FACTORS of cardiovascular disorders in the Iranian study population were nutritional status, cigarette smoking, high perceived stress, low quality of sleep and sedentary lifestyle.
