Abstract

The purpose of the present research was to investigate the structural Pathology of non-profit Higher Education institutes in Mazandaran Province emphasizing their formality, centralization, and their complex manners. In this qualitative and applied research, data were collected by survey and field methods. For this purpose, nine members of the founding board, board of trustees, and non-profit Higher Education experts were selected by purposive sampling method available to the point of theoretical saturation. A semi-structured interview was conducted with them. The data obtained from the interview were analyzed and coded using thematic analysis. The validity of the study was determined by adaptation by the interviewees and peer review. Reliability was also calculated by the test reliability method (fixed index). Finally, 263 specific items were presented by the participants, included in three main components, namely, formality, focus, and Complexity. The interviewees in the formality component gave the most importance to the existence of laws and regulations in various fields in non-profit organizations. In the focus component, the most important, with 50 repetitions, was given to the privatization position of Higher Education in Iran. In the Complexity component, the role and influence of the founding board and the board of trustees in the affairs of these institutions were given the most importance with 29 repetitions.
