The Internet addiction: How University Students Are Affected?

Abstract

 Introduction: Internet is widely used in science and technology and its attractiveness in recent years has led to a phenomenon known as "Internet addiction" emerge. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between Internet addiction and mental health in Students. Methods: In so doing, the study was descriptive correlational study was used. The study population consisted of all Students at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in the 94-95 school year that Morgan table 384 using stratified random sampling method and questionnaires Internet addiction (IAT), Public health (GHQ-28), and demographic information checklist completed. Data analyzed using ANOVA and multiple regression analysis was performed on the same way. Results: Results showed between predictor variables and the criterion variable overall score of Internet addiction as there is a linear relationship (P < 0. 001). The results of analysis of variance showed that the observed significant F (P < 0. 001, F (314, 4) = 99. 12) a component of Public health in general are able to predict Internet addiction. Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that the overall score of general health and its anxiety components such as physical harm depression and social functioning disorder have a significant positive correlation with the total score of Internet addiction and its six components. In other words the level of general health in Students is associated with their Internet addiction.
