Abstract

Aim: In this study, the effect of Insulin was investigated in induction of Drug Resistance to Doxorubicin in MCF-7 breast cancer cell line. Material and method: MCF-7 cells were pretreated with 10 nM Insulin for 48 and 72 hours, respectively. Then, different doses of Doxorubicin (1, 5 and 10 μ M) were added for an additional 24 hours and cell viability was determined by MTT assay. Results: Doxorubicin had antitumor effects by reducing the cell survival in a dose-dependent manner. However, the addition of 10 μ M Doxorubicin in the Insulin-treated cells for 72 hours induced significant Drug Resistance (p<0. 01). Conclusion: The results revealed that Insulin could significantly cause the Doxorubicin resistance in a time-dependent manner in MCF-7 cells.
