Abstract

Violence and injury are among the unintended consequences of increasing sports activities. An important part of violence and injuries concerns sports activities (games, competition among athletes). In most legal systems, these injuries are not subject to general rules of CIVIL LIABILITY. Many writers justify it on the basis of the rule of the assumption of risk. This study seeks to examine, first, from a legal point of view and then from an Islamic law standpoint to pave the way for establishment of a judicial practice and codification of appropriate regulations concerning the elimination of the CIVIL LIABILITY of athletes.
