Abstract

Introduction: Social Capital is one of the variables that influence the economic, social and health development of society. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between Demographic variables and Social Capital in Iranian medical Students. Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. The statistical population of this research includes all Iranian University of Medical Sciences Students in 2018. 367 people were selected randomly using the Cochran sampling formula. In order to collect the data, the Delawiz Social Capital questionnaire (2005) was used along with a number of underlying variables. The validity and reliability of the questionnaire were used for face validity and Cronbach's alpha, respectively. Data were analyzed using by SPSS22 software one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and one-way ANOVA. Results: Social Capital in this research with a mean of 54/91 was at a moderate level. The results showed that Students in the dimension of trust with the mean (10. 97) were the lowest and in the group's participation with the average (17. 47) had the highest Social Capital. No significant relationship was found between age, school, gender and marital status with Social Capital. But the variables of employment status, educational level and residence status had a significant relationship with Social Capital. Conclusion: The promotion of Social Capital of Students in the field of trust should be one of the goals of the university authorities and the improvement of the status of residence and employment for Students should be considered.
