Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of the present study is to review the findings of the researches of Iranian and world research on the evaluation of scientific products in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences and suggested methods and indicators for evaluating scientific products in these fields. Methodology: This study was conducted using a Systematic Review method. For this purpose, relevant researches were searched in international and domestic databases without regard to time limit and finally, a total of 45 articles were analyzed. Findings: Given that publishing and citation patterns in the Humanities and Social Sciences are different from basic, natural and engineering sciences, they cannot be compared and evaluated with the same methods and indices. The unique nature of humanities and social science research is such that quantitative methods such as bibliometric and scientometric methods cannot be used to assess the quality of research in this field. Conclustion: In order to evaluate the quality of the scientific outputs of Humanities and Social Sciences, quantitative approaches should be considered as complementary methods along with qualitative approaches. The indicators and criteria used for these areas should be a combination of quantitative and qualitative indicators.
