Abstract

Background & Aims: Cancer is the second most common cause of mortality after cardiovascular disease. Resilience is one of the best strategies to cope with diseases in patients. This study aimed to determine the effect of resilience-based Group therapy on mothers’ perceptions of child's health status with Cancer. Materials & Methods: This randomized clinical trial was carried out on 48 mothers of Children with Cancer in Shahid Motahhari hospital of Urmia in 2017. Samples were randomly divided into two groups using Excel (RANDBETWEEN function). The data were collected using a demographic questionnaire, General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28), and Coping Health Inventory for Parents (CHIP). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) test was utilized. P-value of less than 0. 05 was considered significant. Results: The mean score of health status perception in the intervention group over time was significantly different compared to the control group (p<0. 001). The mean and standard deviation of health status perception scores in intervention and control groups were 22. 72 (5. 91) and 10. 95 (2. 01), respectively. Conclusion: Resilience-based Group therapy intervention can be helpful as an effective support for mothers of Children with Cancer to understand their child's health status.
