Abstract

In this descriptive research, we examined causes of irregular reference of pregnant women to receive prenatal care. We are discussing about PARTURIENT who had four or fewer prenatal care visits or care only in the third trimester and who gave birth at the MEDICAL CENTERS in Tehran. Five of 14 MEDICAL CENTERS with delivery centers in different areas of Tehran (North, South, Center, East, West) were chosen with cluster Random sampling method. Then data were gathered From 375 PARTURIENT by the convenience Accidental Sampling method, using questionnaire consisting of three parts [sociodemographic characteristics, statements about structural and personal (knowledge and attitude) causes]. Results showed that the most important causes for not seeking prenatal care were attitudinal finding (I had babies before and knew how to take care of myself (59.2%) From personal causes and structural causes (difficulty in paying for prenatal care (32.3%) Uninsured (28.8 %). In knowledge part From personal causes, PARTURIENTs had less knowledge about benetits of early reception of prenatal care including reduced maternal and infant mortality and reduced postpartum complications. It is essential that the health authorities conduct training courses to promote health knowledge of women and also correct wrong attitude of women, as and in the health developing programs incorporate more active roles of health centers and insurance institutes.
