Abstract

Background: A majority of patients have developed PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERs during the course of RENAL TRANSPLANTATION that seek psychiatrist or even psychologist consultation.Materials and methods: In this cross sectional study, a structured interview and the General Health Questionnaire (28-item form) were used to gather the data from 45 transplant recipients in a 12-month period (September 1998 to August 1999).Results: Preoperative rate of ANXIETY. DEPRESSION and decreased in libido were reported 44.4%, 48.9%, and 44.8% respectively, however, these figures decreased to 35.6%, 13.3%, and 27.2% postoperatively. Those with major depressive disease (2 cases), organic-brain disorder (2 cases), and adaptive disorder (9 cases) have improved following the RENAL TRANSPLANTATION.Conclusion: The results of the General Health improvement in somatization, depression, social not in anxiety.
