Abstract

Purpose: To determine the role of MITOMYCIN-C in the success rate of secondary DACRYOCYSTORHINOSTOMY (DCR).Method: Twenty eyes from 20 patients with previous history of unsuccessful DCR were randomly divided in two equal groups (A and B). Secondary DCR was performed equally in both groups with the exception that in group B a piece of sponge soaked in MITOMYCIN-C 4% was placed between the anastomosis area and the osteotomy for 10 minutes and then washed out with 20ml of normal saline solution. All patients were visited at first week, and first, third, and sixth months after the operation. The results of the two groups were compared.Result: The success rate in both groups was 100%. Conclusion: Mytomicin-C dose not increase the success rate of secondary external DCR.
