Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the characteristics of and recent developments in different types of ORBITAL IMPLANTS.Methods: In this review article, data was collected from articles regarding ENUCLEATION and ORBITAL IMPLANTS from 1583 to 2000 and also from in press articles. We stressed on reasons for ENUCLEATION, methods of ENUCLEATION, implant materials, wrapping materials, implant size, weight, cost, motility and other characteristics, technique of implant insertion, pegging system, and complications.Results and Conclusion: ORBITAL IMPLANTS have significantly improved in quality with integrated porous synthetic types. These result in better motility and cosmesis. Overall complications are fewer with new types of ORBITAL IMPLANTS.
