Abstract

Tibial shaft fractures are the most common fractures of long bones in the body. We have studied complications and outcome of this fracture in 75 cases, hospitalized between years 1994-1997 in Shohada centre of orthopedic surgery, Tabriz. 23% of patients were female. Average age was 31 and most frequently between 20 - 30 years of age. Mean period of complete union was 17.2 weeks, mean time of PTB application 4.3 weeks, and the prevalence of nonunion, 13%. Average shortening of limb was 6.5 mm with rang of 0-3.5cm. MALUNION was so common (40%), but almost always in acceptable range.
