INCIDENCE AND SEVERITY OF VESICOURETERAL REFLUX IN CHILDREN

Abstract

 Backgrounds and Objectives: VESICOURETERAL REFLUX incidence and indications for imaging survey had been investigated by many studies for many years but the obtained results are controversial. This study was aimed to evaluate this issue in our region.Material and Methods: In this prospective study, 125 patients with URINARY TRACT INFECTION were eligible for inclusion, all were febrile (central temperature above 38.3oC) with positive urine culture, after urine were sterile imaging study include voiding cystogram has been done. The severity of reflux was categorized in five grades .all information include age and sex were recorded and analyzed.Results: Of total 125 patients (80 female 45 male) aged between 2 and 96 months with URINARY TRACT INFECTION, VESICOURETERAL REFLUX was detected in 55 cases (44%). Reflux occurred in male more than female (49% vs 39%). The incidence of reflux in aged under one years old was similar in female and male (50% in both roughly).Conclusion: URINARY TRACT INFECTION occurs more frequently in female comparing with male (1.7 times). The incidence of reflux was more common in male than female total (39% vs 49%) but the incidence of urinary reflux was same as much as 50% following upper URINARY TRACT INFECTION in age under one years old in both GENDER.
