Abstract

Introduction: Brugada syndrome was introduced by Brugada in 1992. It appears with ST elevation in V1-V2-V3, with or without right bundle branch block (RBBB) in electrocardiogram. Brugada syndrome is the most common cause of sudden cardiac death in, Southeast Asian young people. We didn't have any statistical information about this syndrome in Iran and decided to study this syndrome in our medical centers. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of Brugada syndrome and its sex & age prevalence and its relationship with RBBB. Methods: This is a cross sectional Prospective study and the information were gathered from 5000 person with no history of cardiac disease who referred for medical evaluation. Results: 5000 cases were enrolled in our study and two person had Brugada syndrome. One of them was a 54 year old woman and another was a 50 year old man. One of them had RBBB in his electrocardiogram. Discussion: The prevalence of Brugada syndrome in our study was 0.04 percent. Determination of sex & age prevalence was not possible, because number of cases were so much low to achieve this purpose. Similarly determination of the associated RBBB was not possible. Prevalence of Brugad in our study was less than Japan (0.05%). We suggest a larger study about Brugada syndrome in Iran.
