Abstract

Introduction: It is proposed that noise pollution not only exerts mental and psychological effects on man but also known to produce certain illness such as cardiovascular disorders. Evaluation of effects of noise pollution on BODY TEMPERATURE and heart beats in order to estimate the standard tolerance level of noise is very much demanded. Methods: In this experimental study 40 mature male rats divided into two equal groups of experimental and controls. Each member of experimental groups exposed to noise of 40-decibel intensity for 20 minutes 3 times per day for a period of 3 months. After elapse of this period, 15 rats of each group narcotized and subjected to heart beat measurement using appropriate recording device. BODY TEMPERATURE of remaining rats was recorded from their ears using digital thermometer. Results: Our data indicated that the total heart beat rates and BODY TEMPERATURE of the rats who exposed to noise pollution were significantly higher comparing to those of control ones. The differences were statistically significant (p=0.001 and 0.002 respectively). Discussion: Results of this study showed that noise pollution could elevate the rate of heart beats and BODY TEMPERATURE in experimental group comparing to the controls. This elevation might be due to the activation of hypothalamus- hypophysis- Adrenal complex. This activation stimulates the secretion of catecholamines and adrenocorticoides which effects in not yet fully explored pathway on the rate of HEARTBEATS and BODY TEMPERATURE. From our results it is concluded that reduction in NOISE POLLUTIONS through technical and educational programs is very essential and should included in the community health care planning.
