THE COMPARISION OF EXTRA-AMNIOTIC HYDROCORTISONEAND NORMAL SALINE WITH USE OF FOLEY CATHETER IN INDUCTION OF LABOR

Abstract

 In regard to hospitalization of many first gravid pregnant women at latent phase in one year it is tried to shorten the period between the beginning of the induction to delivery with the above protocols. This study is a clinical trial which took one year in Beheshty and Alzahra hospital in 1378.Sixty primigravid women with unfavorable cervix and medical induction for delivery who were assined to receive either 20 mg hydrocortisone in saline solution or saline solution only administered extera amniatically through on intracervical inflated foley ballon catheter. This was done with folley catheter and after 4 to 6 hours it was extracted and the ordinary induction was begun with 6 mIu/min to 42 mIu/min oxytosin.On the basis of statistical methods T-Test the duration of latent phase and the active phase to delivery in two groups were compared and it was appeared that in hydrocortison group the period between induction to delivery was about 2 1/2 hours (p.value<0.001) shorter. Also the period between induction to active phase in case group was about 1.4 hours (p.value<0.05) shorter than control group.Induction of labor with use of an intracervical foley ballon catheter and extraamniotic corticosteroids reduces the time interval from INDUCTION OF LABOR to delivery.In respect to results it is clearly defined that the period between induction to delivery and active phase will decline in extraamniotic hydrocortison injection and because of safety it may be a good method in shorthening the delivery process.
