INVESTIGATION OF PLASMID PROFILE ESCHERICHIA COLI ISOLATES FROM NOSOCOMIAL INFECTION

Abstract

 Introduction. Hospitalized patients are at unusually high risk of infections, and furthermore, the hospital environment favors the acquisition of resistance to antimicrobial agents, complicating the treatment of nosocomial infections due to drug-resistance pathogens.Methods. The antimicrobial, heavy metal resistance patterns and plasmid profile of Escherichia coli isolates from nosocomial infections (n=5) and healthy human feces (n=5) were compared. Strains were identified by biochemical analysis. Plasmid profile analysis was performed by alkalin- SDS method.Results. Most of strains of Escherichia coli were isolated from nosocomial infections showed resistance to almost antibiotic tested. However strains isolated from healthy human feces were sensitive to almost antibiotic tested. The differences between Minimal Inhibitory Concentration values of strains from clinical cases and from feces for four heavy metals were not significant.However most strains isolated from hospital were more tolerant to heavy metal compare to strains isolated from healthy human feces. Five antimicrobial resistance patterns and plasmid profiles identified for strains of Escherichia coli from nosocomial infection. However four antimicrobial resistance pattern and five plasmid profiles were identified in strains from healthy human feces.Discussion. The investigation showed there was no relationship between number of plasmid and antimicrobial resistance pattern. Although all isolates from nosocomial infections had more plasmid compare to isolates from healthy human feces.
