Abstract

Introduction. Among various stresses, noise pollution is one of the prominent difficulties of industrial societies. Since the elevation of serum cotrisol titer in response to stress has been proved already, its measurement in relation to noise pollution provides important quantitative and qualitative information about noise pollution.Methods. In this study 40 mature male rats divided into two groups of experimental and controL Experimental group exposed to a noise source of 40 Decibel intensity and frequency of 1100 Hertz for a period of 3 months. Subsequently blood withdrawn from all rats and their serum cortisol quantified using ELISA procedure. Results. Our results indicated that with 32 degree freedom and confidence coefficients of 0.001, the difference between two groups statistically were significant.Discussion. In retrospective studies the elevation of cortisol hormone in relation to noise pollution has been documented. In view of industrial societies being exposed to combination of different pollutions and stresses such as air and noise pollution, daily life tensions, proved this effect in relation to noise pollution.
