Abstract

Introduction. Because of level of homocysteine is influenced by vit B6, B12 and folic acid and the level of these vitamins can be different according to cultural, economical and social characteristics in any society, so it is necessary to consider level of homocysteine in different societies separately.Methods. In this study, 81 patients with myocardial infarction CMI) that were bedridden in CCU were selected. Patients with high BUN/Cr, orthostatic hypotension were excluded. With the measurment of homocystein and other information, the data were analysed.Results. In this study, mean and SD of homocysteine were 16.3±8.1µmol/L that is slowly upper than normal range (5-15, µmol/L). But there isn't significant difference between mean of homocysteine in case group with healty persons. There isn't significant difference between mean of homocysteine in case group and sex. There isn't significant difference between mean of homocysteine in case group and age. But there is significant difference between mean of homocystein in patients with MI that are below 50 years old with healty persons in a similar age group. There isn't any significant difference between site of MI and mean of homocysteine. The mean and SD of homocysteine in patients with anterior MI were 16±10.4 µmol/L and in patients with inferior MI were 15.4±6.8 µmol/L.Discussion. These results show that hyperhomocysteinemia may be a significant risk factor for MI only in persons below 50 years old and there isn't significant difference between mean of level of homocysteine and age, sex and site of MI.
