Abstract

Autonomic dysfunction is one of the causes of mortality and morbidity in cerebrovascular disease that could have prognostic significance. Hence sympathetic skin response (SSR) was evaluated in 38 patients with cerebral ischemia (hemispheral-brainstem) and 38 normal age and sex matched subjects in Al-Zahra hospital of Isfahan during 1998-99 by cross- sectional observation study. Latency of responses was measured in palm and sol of subjects by standard method. The results showed abnormal SSR latency in 84.21% and 2.63% of patients with cerebral ischemic lesion and normal subjects respectively. So determination of latency of SSR could be an indicator of autonomic dysfunction in cerebral ischemic strokes.
