Abstract

 Introduction. Gender or sex selection is of importance to Asian population. Among the sex selection procedures "albumin gradient" along with IUI is widely used. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of this method in fertile and infertile couples hopping to have preferably male child. Methods. This study was retrospectively carried out in Isfahan Fertility and Infertility Center. In this study percentage live birth and male born as results of 82 cycles of IUI in 21 fertile and 24 infertile couples were evaluated. In this study the infertile couples used clomide+MHG for super-ovulation and both groups used HCG for ovulation.Results. The over all birth rate per IUI was 25.6% and the success rate for wanted sex was 66.6%. However by dividing the couple into fertile and infertile groups, the birth rates per IUI cycle were 35.7% & 20.4% and the success rates for wanted sex were 80% and 54.4% respectively.Discussion. It can be concluded that albumin gradient with IVI is a suitable procedure for treatment of infertile couples and this procedure is suitable for male gender selection in fertile couples in favoring male.
