Abstract

Introduction: Sleep quality is one of the most important factors that can affect different aspects of health. So this study was done with the aim of investigating the relation between SLEEP DISORDERS and HEMOGLOBIN A1C LEVELS in patients with type 2 DIABETES MELLITUS.Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study on 112 diabetic patients (30 to 70 years old) that were referred to diabetes clinic in Vali-Asr hospital in Fasa. These patients were divided in to two groups based on the Spectrophotometric measuring results of the HEMOGLOBIN A1C LEVELS. Group 1: hemoglobin A1c ≤ 7%, Group 2: hemoglobin A1c>7%. After obtaining written consent, Pittsburgh Sleep mode standard questionnaire (Pittsburgh sleep quality index) was used to check the status of SLEEP DISORDERS. Data were analyzed by SPSS software and chi-square test. Results: Overall 67 (8.59%) of participants were men and the rest were women. The average ages of the men and the women were 87.8±43.54 and 34.8±60.50 respectively. Significant relation was observed between HEMOGLOBIN A1C LEVELS and sleep quality in logistic regression analysis (P=0.001).Conclusion: The existence of relation between SLEEP DISORDERS and HEMOGLOBIN A1C LEVELS, indicates the importance of this subject. It is recommended that people with type 2 DIABETES MELLITUS should be considered from different aspects, including strategies of treatment and prevention from SLEEP DISORDERS, mental hygiene and the use of sleep medications and anti-depressants.
