Abstract

SARCOMA/fa?page=1&sort=1&ftyp=all&fgrp=all&fyrs=all" target="_blank">EPITHELIOID SARCOMA is a uncommon malignant slow-growing tumor which differentiates from mesenchymatous cells. The majority occuring in the subcutis as a multinodular mass, usually 3-6 cm in diameter in the distal extremities of young adult males.Histologically, tumor is typically composed of multiple nodules, made up of eosinophilic cells which are epithelioid and spindle shaped that are positive for cytokeratin and vimentin on immunohistochemical staining. The center of the nodules often shows necrosis or myxiod degeneration and the tumor's cells are set in a very dense collagenous stroma.This tumor should be differentiated from benign and malignant lesions. Treatment is wide surgical excision with or whithout radiotherapy. Regional lymph node dissection should be included among the therapeutic modalities. The 5-years survival rate is 70%. Around 75 perecent of cases recure locally, often repeatedly. Tumor size of more than 3cm in diameter, deep location and the presence of necrosis, vascular invasion, and lymph node metastatic lesions have been identified as adverse prognostic signs.
