Abstract

Dyschromia of CLOFAZIMIN occurs in majority of patients receiving CLOFAZIMIN in MDT (multi drug therapy) regimen for multibacillary leprosy. Could this side effect be used as an indicator of its regular consumption?In a prospective cross sectional study from 1999 to 2001, 55 patients were examined before and monthly during treatment and the clinical assessment of skin color change was recorded. 35 males and 20 females were followed between five and 24 months. During this time they received Min.4 and Max 12 monthly period of MDT. DYSCHROMIA were seen in 31 cases (56.23%).Dyschromia was more common in patients who received MDT regularly and longer comparing with those receiving drugs irregularly and in a shorter time (p=0.0001 and p=0.001 respectively) DYSCHROMIA of CLOFAZIMIN is related interlay to regular and longer consumption of CLOFAZIMIN and can be used as an indicator.
