Abstract

Background: PEMPHIGUS VULGARIS is a mucocutaneous bullous disease in which epithelial cells connection is lost due to antiepithelial cells antibodies. These antibodies can be detected in serum. For the present study we have assessed the serum pemphigus antibody level during diagnosis, remission, and recurrence of PEMPHIGUS VULGARIS.Materials and methods: 30 patients with PEMPHIGUS VULGARIS who have been admitted to dermatology wards and have not been on systemic drug therapy were selected. INDIRECT IMMUNOFLUORESCENT (IIF) was performed before treatment, and during the remission period. In case of recurrence within 6 months of follow up, IIF was repeated.Results: There was no significant association between sex and age with antibody titer before treatment, however, the association between disease severity and IIF titer before treatment was statistically significant that showed a weak correlation (1= 0.4, p<0.04). Meanwhile, there was a significant association between disease occurrence and antibody level. IIF of remission and recurrence period failed to reveal a significant difference.Conclusion: We have not found any correlation between clinical states and antibody level. Thus, we can not rely on these tests for dose adjustment.
